Beltre, Holland lead Rangers to 8-0 rout of Mariners

Adrian Beltre homered and drove in five runs Tuesday night, and Derek Holland took a shutout into the seventh inning as the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners 8-0

Beltre’s homer was a three-run shot that capped a five-run third against Wade Miley. Beltre drove in two more in the seventh with a two-out double that Leonys Martin could track down.

Elvis Andrus had three hits and an RBI in support of Holland, who allowed four hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings.　

Hitting: Nomar Mazara singled in the first inning for the third straight game to open his career, and the Rangers added five hits in a five-run third. Andrus started the inning with a single, went to third on a Ryan Rua single and scored on a Bryan Holaday single. The Mariners couldn’t field a bunt try by Delino DeShields, who was credited with a fourth straight single. ... Prince Fielder had sacrifice fly two batters later, and Beltre just cleared the wall in the left-field corner to make it 5-0. ... The Rangers didn’t score again until the sixth, when Rougned Odor doubled with one out and scored on Andrus’ third hit. ... Holaday was grazed by a pitch to open the seventh, and DeShields followed with a walk. Beltre roped a double to center field for an 8-0 advantage. 　

Pitching: Holland didn’t allow any solid contract until the sixth inning, one lineout by Nelson Cruz. Otherwise, the left-hander had his way with the Mariners despite building a high pitch count. ... Holland did get help defensively, as Beltre made a sliding stop to end the second after Mazara had dived near the right-field line to rob Chris Iannetta. Mazara came up big again in the third, tracking down a Martin drive to the wall in right-center. ... Holland had to get Robinson Cano on a broken-bat liner to snuff out a bases-loaded two-out jam in the third. ... Holland’s best inning was the sixth, 1-2-3 frame on seven pitches. He was lifted at 109 pitches with two outs in the seventh.
