Rangers recap: Ryan Rua ignites Texas’ three-run rally in ninth

The Rangers scored three times in the ninth inning to beat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 Monday afternoon at Surprise Stadium. Drew Robinson led off the ninth with a single before being forced out at second on Lewis Brinson’s fielder’s choice. James Jones singled before Ryan Rua scored Brinson and Jones with a double to left-center field. After Joey Gallo walked, Ron Guzman singled to right to score Rua with the game-winner.

Pitching: Starter Colby Lewis pitched for the second time this spring. He allowed a two-run homer to former Rangers first baseman Kyle Blanks in the first inning. Lewis threw 49 pitches (32 strikes), allowed five hits and struck out two in three innings. Anthony Ranaudo pitched two scoreless innings before allowing three runs on three hits in the seventh. Yohander Mendez replaced him and pitched 1  1/3 scoreless innings. Jake Diekman allowed a hit in his first A game action of the spring. He pitched a scoreless fourth inning.

Hitting: Shin-Soo Choo singled twice and scored a run to lead Texas’ 14-hit attack. Rua is batting .455 this spring after going 3 for 3 with three RBIs. James Jones was 1 for 3 with a run scored. Guzman is hitting .429 this spring after going 1 for 3 Monday. Adrian Beltre singled in his lone at-bat before giving way to Gallo, who was 0 for 2 with a walk and a strikeout.

Notable: Prince Fielder singled to right field in the third to collect his first hit of the spring after starting 0 for 8, including a long out to deep center field in the first inning Monday. ... Gallo struck out looking in the fifth. He leads the club wit six strikeouts this spring.
