Renovated facility gives Texas Rangers supersized space and amenities
The weight room goes on forever. The array of hot tubs would make Hugh Hefner blush. The clubhouse is nearly twice the size it used to be.
The Texas Rangers’ spring training facility, which they share with the Kansas City Royals in Surprise, has been renovated by the city and the upgrades are impressive. Almost all are aimed at the players. Both teams facilities were part of the renovations, which includes new seats in Surprise Stadium.
The new weight room is nearly five times larger than the previous version and includes free weights and all manor of exercise machines, including one pitcher Cole Hamels grew fond of using with the Phillies.
For the first time the Rangers have an in-house full-service kitchen. Before, chefs made due in a temporary tent set up outside. Although the smell of cooking steaks wafted more freely, the set up was not ideal. Along with the kitchen is a larger dining area for the team and staff. The Rangers new clubhouse, shaped like a football, includes 70 lockers, 12 more than a year ago, and features two sets of lounging furniture on either side.
