Rangers-Blue Jays Game 5 pitching matchup
LHP Cole Hamels (13-8, 3.65 ERA): The Rangers traded for the veteran lefty for this exact type of moment. In Game 2, Hamels allowed two earned runs on six hits over seven innings.
“He’s definitely a guy who, when out there in big moments, he wants to be out there,” Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux said. “I think that’s what separates him from a lot of people, is that he’s been there, done that, and he knows what it takes to be successful. He knows what the finish line smells like, what it tastes like.”
RHP Marcus Stroman (4-0, 1.67 ERA): Stroman was stellar, too, against Hamels in Game 2. He brushed off a rocky start when the Rangers scored three in the first two innings on three hits. He held Texas to two hits the next four innings.
Stroman, 24, made just four regular-season starts after recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee suffered March 10 during spring.
