Andrus, Rosales lead Rangers over Reds 8-2
Elvis Andrus and Adam Rosales each had two RBIs and Jurickson Profar belted his second home run of the spring as Texas defeated Cincinnati, 8-2, on Monday at Surprise Stadium.
The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the second when Leonys Martin scored from third on a double steal with J.P. Arencibia, who stole second.
Profar’s homer down the right-field line put the Rangers up 2-0 in the third.
After the Reds tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fifth, Andrus’ two-run single scored Kevin Kouzmanoff and Rougned Odor. An error and wild pitch started a four-run seventh for the Rangers. Andy Parrino doubled to left-center to score Brad Snyder and Profar and Parrino scored on Rosales’ single.
Tanaka loses teeth
Rangers infielder Kensuke Tanaka had to leave Monday’s game after having his front top three teeth broken in half by the batting helmet of the Reds’ Brayan Pena in the seventh inning.
Tanaka was taking a pick-off throw at second base when Pena’s helmet hit him in the face. Tanaka stayed in the game and batted in the bottom of the inning and reached on a throwing error when Luis Sardinas pinch ran for him.
“He just showed you how tough he was because he went up there and had an at-bat and then we took him out so he could get to the dentist,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “Big head Pena. That’s a big helmet to run into.”
