Rangers reach one-year deals with Ogando, Feliz

Two more Texas Rangers avoided salary arbitration Friday, when right-handers Alexi Ogando and Neftali Feliz agreed to one-year deals and left first baseman Mitch Moreland as the only arbitration-eligible player who exchanged figures with the club.

And there was quite a gap between the two sides.

Ogando, in his first year of arbitration, will make $2.625 million in 2014 as a member of the starting rotation. He was back in the rotation in 2013, going 7-4 with a 3.11 ERA, but he landed on the disabled list three times with biceps and shoulder injuries.

Feliz didn’t have a decision or allow an earned run in 4 2/3 innings while coming back from Tommy John surgery. He will make $3 million out of the bullpen and is one of three candidates to replace Joe Nathan as closer.

Moreland asked for $3.25 million, and the Rangers countered at $2.025 million. They have until next month to hammer out an agreement, or go to an arbitration hearing if no deal is reached.

The Rangers haven’t been to a hearing since they beat Lee Stevens in 2000.
