A Rangers social media team member used the club’s official Twitter account to post a tweet calling for the firing of Texas Longhorns’ footbal coach Charlie Strong. The employee was fired immediately, the Rangers said in a release.

The Rangers had to issue a statement apologizing for a message sent out on their official club Twitter account Saturday afternoon. A member of the Rangers’ social media department who was not working during the game tweeted out “Fire Charlie,” referring to University of Texas football coach Charlie Strong, whose Longhorns lost to TCU 50-7 in Fort Worth.

The post, which went out to over 600,000 followers, was quickly deleted.

In their statement, the Rangers apologized to the university and Strong for “the very inappropriate and insensitive message that was briefly posted on the team’s twitter account.”

The employee was fired, effective immediately, the Rangers said.
