The Rangers won’t see the Seattle Mariners again in 2015 and that’s a good thing. The Mariners won 9-2 Sunday at Globe Life Park to take the weekend series 2-1 and the season series 12-7. The Rangers have Monday off before beginning a three-game series in Oakland on Tuesday.

Pitching: Derek Holland allowed seven runs, including five in the sixth innings against the Mariners and was pulled with one out in the fifth, his shortest outing since returning from a shoulder injury on August 19. Holland seven hits and a season-high five walks. A three-run homer by Robinson Cano made it 7-2 in the fifth. The next batter, Franklin Gutierrez, facing Ross Ohlendorf, homered to right to make it 8-2. Nick Martinez pitched 2 1/2 for scoreless relief before Andrew Faulkner took over for the final two outs in the eighth. Tanner Scheppers pitched the ninth and allowed a run on one hit. Shin-Soo Choo had to make a homer-robbing catch above the wall in right to prevent a three-run homer. The Mariners outhit the Ranger 14-4.

Hitting: Mitch Moreland’s solo homer to left-center field gave Texas 1-0 lead in the second. Mariner’s starter Felix Hernandez worked out of a third-inning jam after Drew Stubbs led off with a double. Stubbs was quickly picked off by catcher Jesus Sucre. Will Venable and Shin-Soo Choo followed with walks but Prince Fielder and Adrian Beltre both flied out to end the inning.

In the fourth, Rougned Odor’s one-out triple set up Elvis Andrus’ run-scoring single to tie it at 2-2. Texas was held without a hit the final five innings.

Notable: Cano’s homer in the fifth is the first Holland has allowed by a left-handed hitter since Jason Castro on Aug. 21, 2013 ... Hernandez is the ninth pitcher in history to beat Texas five times in a season. He’s the first since Bartolo Colon had six wins against the Rangers in 2004.
