Double A Frisco right-hander Connor Sadzeck earned his first career win with the RoughRiders on Thursday night after throwing six no-hit innings at Tulsa.

It was much of what the right-hander had in mind after being called up from High A High Desert on Aug. 6. That day he made his first start and things got out of hand in a hurry. He struggled with his command and was greeted to Double A with six earned runs on three hits and three walks and recorded only one out before being pulled.

He gathered himself and walked just three in his next two starts, including Thursday. He walked two and struck out two over 88 pitches.

Sadzeck, who turns 24 on Oct. 1, returned to the field for High Desert in May after recovering from Tommy John surgery on March 26, 2014.

Rangers team physician Keith Meister performed the surgery. Sadzeck’s velocity has been impressive since the surgery, hovering in the mid-to-high 90s. Before, it was low-to-mid 90s.

“This year it has been up, which has been good for me,” Sadzeck said.

He also added a slider to go along with a changeup and curveball just before the promotion.

“It’s still a work in progress,” he said.

No problem for Nomar

Nomar Mazara has made the transition from Double A to Triple A look easy. Since being called up to Round Rock from Frisco the 20-year-old outfielder had five hits in four games through Friday. He doubled twice in his Triple A debut Tuesday and followed that with two singles Wednesday.

E-Train derailed

Round Rock had lost nine consecutive games entering Saturday’s series finale at Fresno. The Express (68-59) still led the Pacific Coast League’s American Southern division by four games before Saturday’s games.

Dog day of August

Wednesday’s Frisco game at Dr Pepper Ballpark is Bark in the Park Night. Fans are allowed to bring their dogs; the first 500 receive a RoughRiders Dog Bowl. Fans with dogs are allowed to walk the concourse and can watch the game from the outfield grass berm. There’s a Pooch Parade on the warning track before the game and dogs can run the bases after the game. (No sniffing allowed.) It’s also Wiener Wednesday, and we’re not talking Dachshunds. Hot dogs are $1.

Key stat

19Home runs for Frisco second baseman Drew Robinson, which leads the Texas League. He’s also fourth in the league with 81 walks.
