Rangers recap: Texas walks off with eighth consecutive home win
Adrian Beltre was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning to give the Rangers a 4-3 walk-off win Monday night at Globe Life Park.
It’s Texass’ sixth walk-off win and first since July 30 against the Yankees.
Pitching: Left-hander Cole Hamels struggled with his command for much of the night but held Seattle to three runs on seven hits and four walks through seven innings. The four walks tied a season-high. He also struck out eight. Two walks to open the fourth led the Mariners’ first run. A couple singles to start the fifth led to another run, which tied the game at 2-2. After a 1-2-3 sixth, the Mariners tied it at 3-3 on two singles and a walk. Shin-Soo Choo threw out Logan Morrison with an excellent throw from right field for an inning-ending double play that prevented Seattle from going ahead.
Sam Dyson pitched a perfect eighth and Shawn Tolleson pitched the ninth. After a leadoff single he retired the next three batters to keep the game tied at 3-3.
Hitting: Shin-Soo Choo reached on a walk in the first and a single in the third and scored both times on Adrian Beltre doubles to the left-field corner. The Rangers failed to add to their lead in both innings as Mitch Moreland and Elvis Andrus went hitless in the innings, stranding a runner at third each time. Andrus led off the sixth with a single and later scored on Ryan Strausborger’s sac fly to center to give Texas a 3-2 lead. Rougned Odor was stranded at second, however when Delino DeShields grounded out to end the inning. In the ninth, the Ryan Strausborger and Delino DeShields reached on bunt singles and Choo loaded the bases when Mariners’ reliever Fernando Rodney hit him with a pitch. After Prince Fielder struck out, Beltre walked on a 3-1 pitch to score Strausborger with the winning run.
Notable: Beltre’s two doubles gives him 548 in his career, 29th all-time. Only two active players have more, Albert Pujols (576) and David Ortiz (569) ... the Rangers lead the league with 32 bunt singles ... the Rangers have three walk-off wins on a walk since the beginning of the 2014 season.
