Texas Rangers recall outfielder Evan Carter from Triple-A Round Rock
The Texas Rangers recalled Evan Carter from Triple-A Round Rock, the team announced in a statement on Tuesday.
Carter started the season in the minor leagues after struggling in spring training with a .154 batting average with no home runs and an RBI.
In 21 games with the Express, Carter hit .221 with three home runs and nine RBIs and will return to the Metroplex as the Rangers’ offense struggles early in the season.
Leody Taveras earned the starting job in center field over Carter in spring training but couldn’t carry that momentum to the regular season, hitting .241 with one home run and eight RBIs.
The Rangers outrighted Taveras, who was acquired on waivers by the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
Taveras played six seasons for the Rangers, after being signed as an international free agent in 2015, making his MLB debut in 2020, and was a part of the 2023 team that won the World Series.
After losing five of seven games on their most recent homestand, the Rangers will try to turn things around on a six-game road trip featuring the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers.
