Pitching: Nick Martinez allowed runs in the first and second innings but prevented the Giants from a big inning and lasted through 6 1/3. He allowed seven hits, including five in the first two frames. He faced one over the minimum between the third and sixth innings, thanks to a 6-4-3 double play to end the fifth. He walked two and struck our four. He left with two on and one out in the seventh after a walk and single. Jake Diekman, in his first game with Texas since being traded, along with Cole Hamels from the Phillies, replaced Martinez in the inning and retired the next two batters to keep the score at 6-2. Diekman pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings of relief before Shawn Tolleson closed it in the ninth. Tolleson gave up a solo homer to Brandon Crawford to start the inning .

Hitting: Adrian Beltre gave Texas a 2-1 lead with a two-run homer to left in the first inning against Giants’ ace Madison Bumgarner. The Rangers added four more in the second when Adam Rosales led of with a double and Rougned Odor followed with a single. Rosales scored on Chris Gimenez’s groundout. Delino DeShields singled in Odor and Elvis Andrus’ two-run homer made it 6-2 after two. The six earned runs allowed by Bumgarner ties a season-high and is the most he’s allowed in a game since May 2013.

Notable: Cole Hamels was in uniform and in the dugout during Friday’s game. He was introduced and shown on the Globe Life Park video board between the seventh and eighth innings. He waved and smiled to cheers.
