Texas Rangers broadcaster C.J. Nitkowski announces his departure from the team. Here’s why
C.J. Nitkowski announced Monday on X, formerly Twitter, that he is stepping down as broadcaster for the Texas Rangers after working for the team for seven years.
Nitkowski is leaving the Rangers to join the Atlanta Braves broadcast team to be closer to his family in Atlanta.
“After much deliberation, I am stepping away from my television duties on Texas Rangers broadcasts, effective immediately, to pursue an opportunity closer to home in Atlanta,” Nitkowski said, “ The travel demands and time away from my family have become more challenging than I ever anticipated.”
Nitkowski played 10 seasons in the Majors, including a stint with the Texas Rangers in 2002, before moving into the television booth, where he has won five Sports Emmy Awards for his broadcast work.
Texas Rangers EVP John Blake gave a statement on Nitkowski’s departure.
“CJ has done an outstanding job of analyzing the game and educating the audience in his seven years in the Rangers’ TV booth,” said Blake, “He thoroughly prepared each and every game, no matter the club’s position in the standings, and he will be missed.”
Nitkowksi ended his statement by thanking Rangers fans for their support over the years.
“It has been my honor to call Rangers games on your TV and to have shared this extra special 2023 season with you,” said Nitkowski.
The Rangers expect to have a decision on his replacement made in early 2024, according to Blake’s statement.
