We’re getting tacos! How Ketel Marte won free tacos for (almost) everyone in America
It came in the top of the third inning during in game 1 of the 2023 World Series between the Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington Friday.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Katel Marte stole second base earning everyone who signed up for the Taco Bell rewards program free tacos.
The free tacos are part of the restaurant chain’s “steal a base, steal a taco” promotion.
Those who signed up ahead of game 1 and predicted Katel Marte would steal the first base also won a medium drink.
The promotion has been going on sporadically since 2007, but stated happening on a consistent annual basis in 2015. Teams who’ve had the first stolen base as part of the promotion have a 7-4 record in the World Series.
The first stolen base of the World Series has come in game 1 every year since 2018.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have led the league in stolen bases this postseason averaging 1.6 stolen bases per game. They also have a 6-0 record in games where they’ve stolen at least one base.
