Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has a World Series favorite (and this one should be obvious)
A World Series favorite? That’s an easy call for Patrick Mahomes.
Growing up in East Texas, the superstar quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs was a fan of two baseball teams: any team that included his father, Pat Sr., on the roster, and the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers meet the Arizona Diamondbacks in the World Series that begins on Friday.
“I was a big Rangers fan growing up, especially (my) high school years when they got to the World Series,” Mahomes said.
Mahomes said he went to games during the 2010 and 2011 World Series, when the Rangers lost to the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. Until this year, those were the franchise’s lone World Series appearances.
Baseball was Mahomes’ first love. Growing up, he had a notion of following in his father’s footsteps. Pat Mahomes played for six teams over 11 seasons, including one year with the Rangers.
Young Patrick Mahomes was a standout pitcher at Whitehouse High School and was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft before opting to attend Texas Tech. He gave baseball a shot in college as a freshman but soon turned to football full-time.
Two Super Bowl titles and two NFL MVP awards later, it seems like a good choice.
Mahomes remains involved in baseball, of course, as part of the Royals’ ownership group.
