Why were Houston Astros fans begging Ted Cruz not to attend game 7 of the ALCS?

Texas senator Ted Cruz ignored Astros fans’ pleas for him to avoid attending Game 7 of the American League Championship Series between the Houston and the Texas Rangers. Why were fans so adamant that Cruz not attend?

The reason is fans see Cruz as a bad luck charm. The Astros are 0-4 in home games attended by Cruz this postseason including Sunday’s 9-2 loss to the Rangers.

Speaking to Rolling Stone a spokesman said Cruz has attended games since the 1980s and has been in attendance for Astros victories in the past. Cruz and his daughter regularly go to games together.

In a Monday social media post responding to the Rolling Stone article about Astro fans urging Cruz not to attend, Cruz said he’s been at “nearly EVERY Astros home playoff game” in the past seven years.

“If they’re going to blame me for our recent home losses, pls also credit us for TWO World Series Championships & SEVEN consecutive ALCS’s—we were there cheering Stros on!” the post reads.

Astros and Rangers fans on X, formerly Twitter, had conflicting views on whether Cruz should attend.
