Kings of Texas baseball! Rangers fans celebrate ‘complete beat down’ of Houston Astros
More than 5,000 fans celebrated at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Monday as the Texas Rangers decimated the Houston Astros in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
The Rangers beat the Astros 11-4 to punch their ticket to the World Series for the first time since 2011.
“This hasn’t happened since I was 5 years old,” said Lucas Sanders, who recounted the Rangers’ heartbreaking loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.
After all these years, Rangers fans finally get to celebrate, Sanders said.
Words failed Burleson resident Malcolm Hogan when he tried to describe his emotions after the Rangers’ victory. He wore in a jungle green camouflage jersey because the Rangers were “going to war,” he said
The Rangers have won the battle after beating the Astros in the ALCS, Hogan said, adding, “now we gotta go win the war.”
It was exactly what 18-year-old Rangers fan J.J. Lopez was hoping for.
“I’m hoping for a complete beat down of the Astros,” Lopez said before the game. “I don’t want there to be any questions.”
Other fans reveled in the electric atmosphere.
There’s nothing better than playoff baseball, said Frisco resident Zach Klemo.
Klemo, who moved to Frisco three years ago, said it was important to bring his two daughters to Monday’s game to help foster their love of baseball.
“What better way to do it than to watch your team win?” he said.
Watching the Rangers always created special memories for Fate resident Matt Sikes. He brought his 10-year-old son Jaden to the watch party to continue the tradition.
“My father’s passed on, and now I’m just really excited to get to celebrate here with my son,” Sike said.
The Rangers will play the winner of the National League ChampionshipSeries between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Philadelphia Phillies. Arizona defeated Philadelphia 5-1 on Monday to push that series to Game 7 on Tuesday.
Multiple fans said this season will still be special regardless of whether the Rangers win the World Series.
The team has fought through so much adversity to make it this far, Hogan said.
“If they don’t win it, I’m still going to be grateful,” he said.
Game 1 of the World Series will be Friday at Globe Life Field.
