Astros hitters continue dominance in 10-3 victory over Texas Rangers in game 4 of ALCS
Houston continued its 2023 mastery at Globe Life Field on Thursday. And after beating the Rangers 10-3 in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, neither the players nor the managers could easily explain the visiting team’s success.
“They keep asking me that same question. I got the same answer. I don’t know, I know our guys see the ball well here, and, you know, the ball carries here. I think it carries better here,” said Houston manager Dusty Baker, “You know, some ballparks you like hitting in some ballpark, you don’t.”
The Astros’ victory evens the ALCS 2-2. Game 5 is slated for Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Globe Life Field were the Astros are 8-1 this season.
Astros stars Alex Bregman and Mauricio Dubon echoed their managers’ sentiments.
“I can’t (explain it),” Mauricio Dubon said about the Astros’ dominance at Globe Life Field “It just happens. We come here and focus. Everyone does a good job and it is showing right now. “
“I have no idea,” Alex Bergman said when asked why the Astros play so well in Arlington “ We’re competing, try to win as many pitches as we can. And in the postseason when you are playing a great ballclub like them, you gotta take it one game at a time, one pitch at a time. I think our offense has done a better job the last two days, passing the torch to the next guy; putting together tougher at-bats.”
The Astros have outscored the Rangers 74-32 in their last seven games in Arlington, including back-to-back ALCS wins after losing the first two games of the series in their home park.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said his team knows how well the Astros have played in his team’s park.
“They played very well in this ballpark. We need to change that, and we know it, but it’s all up to us pitching better and scoring some runs,” Bochy said.
In the last two games, the Rangers have scored eight runs while going 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Dane Dunning, who came one in relief in the first inning after Rangers starting pitcher Andrew Heaney was knocked out early, said he understands why the Astros are succeeding.
“I mean, they’re just, they’re capitalizing on the mistakes,” Dunning said. “It’s plain and simple. We put ourselves in a bad spot.
The Astros have won the last seven games at Globe Life Field and the Rangers will send out Jordan Montgomery on Friday in hopes of snapping that streak and putting the Astros on the brink of elimination.
The series will move back to Houston on Sunday for Game 6 and on Monday, if needed, for Game 7.
