Texas Rangers City Connect uniforms celebrate Dallas-Fort Worth, minor leagues. Take a look

The Texas Rangers’ City Connect uniforms celebrate Dallas-Fort Worth and the minor league team that paved the way for the Rangers.

Rangers creative director Scott Biggers explained the process behind making the uniforms.

“We have a super rich heritage we can draw from, so yes, every element is rooted in some form of history from our past,” he said.

Biggers explained the challenges of creating a uniform for the Texas Rangers as opposed to other MLB teams.

“Big challenge on this is we don’t wear the name of a city, we wear the name of a state and it’s the largest state represented in Major League Baseball,” he said.

Biggers also spoke about former Arlington Mayor Tom Vandergriff’s vision to bring a professional baseball team to Arlington.

“It was real important and again a bit of challenge when you wear the name of a state and not a city, so we wanted to make sure that we did pay homage to Dallas-Fort Worth and definitely Arlington,” he said.

The uniforms, unveiled Monday at the team apparel store at Globe Life Field, feature “TX” on the right side with a spur through the “X.” The spur is a tribute to the minor league Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs, which played in front of record crowds at Turnpike Stadium from 1965-71.

The logo on the sleeve is a “Peagle,” created by blending the mascots of Dallas and Fort Worth minor league teams before the Rangers moved to Arlington: the Dallas Eagles and Fort Worth Cats. A number in red on the left side is a reference to the minor league 1920 Fort Worth Panthers. The blue pants and logo pay homage to the Spurs.

The date “4/21” is emblazoned inside the collar and on the side of the hat. That date represents the day Texas gained independence in 1836 and the first Rangers home game in 1972. The club will also debut the uniforms on Friday, April 21, against the Oakland Athletics at Globe Life Field.

The City Connect uniforms were introduced in 2021 to celebrate the culture of MLB clubs.
