The 2022 MLB season is officially delayed after Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the league has canceled the first two series for each team. Opening Day was scheduled for March 31.

For the Texas Rangers, that means their four-game, opening-season series against the New York Yankees at Globe Life Field and a three-game series against the Marlins in Miami have been canceled. The league said players will not be paid for games not played.

The league and the MLB Players Union could not come together on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, which led to team owners canceling the first two series. The league officially locked out the players back on Dec. 2.

The canceled 2022 games will be baseball’s first games lost to labor issues since 1994.

“The Rangers are very disappointed that we are not able to start the 2022 regular season as scheduled, and we apologize for the inconvenience this causes you,” the Rangers said in a release. “Major League Baseball is working to get the game back on the field as soon as possible. This is certainly not a situation we wanted. We understand just how important it is to you that we get baseball back on the field. Major League Baseball’s priority now, as it has been, is to get fans in their seats as quickly as possible.”

Rangers fans with individual-game tickets for canceled games at Globe Life Field purchased through texasrangers.com will receive a full refund automatically processed to the method of payment used at time of purchase, including service fees, if applicable. No action is needed to start the refund process.

Individual tickets purchased for the March 31 Opening Day game remain valid for the Rangers’ 2022 home opener when the date has been determined. Fans holding tickets for March 31 may also exchange those tickets for another 2022 game or receive a full refund.

Season-ticket holders with full, half, or 20-game plans will be contacted by their individual ticket sales representatives to discuss options, which include receiving a credit for canceled games, which can be used for future 2022 game purchases including individual, group, and nightly suite rental tickets or 2023 season ticket renewals or receiving a refund for canceled games.
