Wandy Rodriguez didn’t have it Wednesday night and the Oakland Athletics knew early. The A’s scored all eight runs they needed in the first two innings for an 8-2 win at Globe Life Park. The teams finish the three-game series at 1:05 p.m. Thursday.

Pitching: The A’s scored five in the first against starter Wandy Rodriguez, who struggled with his command. Oakland had two doubles and led 1-0 before Rodriguez walked two batters on eight pitches to load the bases. Brett Lawrie homered to center field on the first pitch, a 74 mph curve to make it 5-0. The A’s added three runs in the second, including a two-run homer by Josh Phegley. Rodriguez allowed eight runs on 11 hits and three walks.

Anthony Bass started the fifth and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. Sam Freeman pitched a scoreless ninth.

Hitting: Carlos Corporan’s two-run double in the fifth got the Rangers on the board and made it 8-2. Prince Fielder and Elvis Andrus each had two of the Rangers’ nine hits. Joey Gallo had three of the Rangers six strikeouts. Andrus and Ryan Rua also had doubles.

Notable: Crew chief Dale Scott, who was working as the second base ump, was knocked out of the game for a few innings after being hit by a line drive by Oakland’s Brett Lawrie in the fourth. He returned for the top of the seventh ... Also in the fourth, an elderly man in the stands was hit in the head by a foul ball. He was bleeding and escorted from his seat to be checked out by stadium personnel ... 34,216 was the announced attendance, pushing the Rangers attendance this season over the million mark.
