Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward has seen first-hand the mental grind a health-care worker can be forced to cope with during normal times.

His wife, Erin, worked until February as an emergency-room trauma nurse at a Level 1 hospital in Arizona, and she has seen her share of tragedy. She has brought her work home with her following some shifts.

Needless to say, they have never dealt with a pandemic as doctors, nurses and other first responders are now as coronavirus spreads across the country and throughout the world.

The Woodwards can’t do much more than follow CDC guidelines to combat coronavirus, but they have offered meaningful words of encouragement and meals to folks on the front lines in Arlington and Dallas.

They took to Twitter on Wednesday, mostly giving thanks to all the work that is being done.

“We know you guys are battling this coronavirus crisis right now, and we wanted to express our gratitude to you,” Erin said in a 45-second video. “You’re risking your lives for all of our families to keep us safe, and we’re praying for you and we love you.”

The Woodwards, along with general manager Jon Daniels and his wife, Robyn, are providing meals to Medical City of Arlington and Dallas. Daniels’ father is a chaplain at a children’s hospital in New York.

Woodward and family are at their home in Chandler, Ariz., but are anticipating a move to the Metroplex this year. Woodward said that Erin plans on continuing to work after the move and has a multi-state license to practice.

Their video Thursday was their way of helping.

“We’re just trying to help as much as we can,” Woodward said. “We have a lot of family and friends and people who are really struggling right now in the world and our communities — in Arizona where we live and in Texas.”
