Joey Gallo homers again, as did a Texas Rangers teammate while Gallo was doing this
Good news for the Texas Rangers could be found Thursday afternoon at Surprise Stadium.
Joey Gallo connected for his second spring home run in an 11-9 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, and said that his swing and approach are starting to come together after missing more than half of last season.
He also has a plan for helping other Rangers hit home runs.
“I go the bathroom every time somebody hits a home run,” Gallo said. “I should just hang out in there.”
That was the case, apparently, when Adolis Garcia connected in the third inning. The blast cleared the berm in left field beyond the visiting bullpen.
Let’s just take Gallo’s word for that.
“I was in the bathroom when he hit his, but I heard it,” Gallo said. “It sounded like it went really, really far.”
Gallo’s might not have gone as far, but his laser to right field got out quicker. He said the at-bat was more like the kind he had in becoming an All-Star last season before a broken hamate bone in July ended his season.
The right fielder had been too aggressive and was chasing pitches. He said the home run was the by-product of patience at the plate and making the pitcher work.
“I’m feeling better every day,” Gallo said. “I’ve been working on some stuff to get my swing back to where it was last year. It takes time. In spring training you try not to get too result-oriented and just worry about getting ready for the season.”
