Pitching: Yovani Gallardo scattered eight hits and held the Astros to two runs over 5 2/3 innings and left with a 5-1 lead. He struck out seven and walked one in his first-career start at Globe Life Park. Jon Edwards replaced him in the sixth and walked the two batters he faced, the second of which drove in a run. Phil Klein replaced Edwards and forced a ground out to end the inning.

Hitting: Adrian Beltre tripled and scored on a throwing error to third in the first inning. He also doubled in the third. Mitch Moreland had two hits and Elvis Andrus drove in two runs with a bases loaded single through the left side in the fifth to give the Rangers a 5-1 lead. Rougned Odor doubled to lead off the eighth and moved to third on Robinson Chirinos’ sac bunt. Odor scored on Carlos Peguero’s two-out single through the right side. Peguero, in his first game with the Rangers, had two hits. Leonys Martin was 0 for 5 and saw his average drop to .120.

Notables: Leonys Martin dove for a sinking liner in shallow center in the second but it clipped off his glove. He wasn’t charged with an error but it’s a play he should probably make. Delino DeShields stole second after pinch-running for Mitch Moreland in the seventh. It was the Rangers first stolen base of the season and DeShields first career steal in the big leagues after stealing 241 bases in five minor league seasons with the Astros.
