Rangers hang on for 10-9 win over Angels
Joey Gallo, Shin-Soo Choo and Carlos Gomez connected for home runs Friday night, but the Texas Rangers needed a two-out wild pitch in the eighth inning to edge the Los Angeles Angels 10-9.
Gomez scored the game winner after he walked with two outs, stole second and went to third an a throwing error. Joey Gallo walked, and Mike Napoli was batting when Cam Bedrosian uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Gomez to race home safely.
Cole Hamels allowed four runs in five innings, and Choo’s homer in the sixth gave the Rangers a 9-4 lead. Ricky Rodriguez, though, allowed three runs in the seventh, and Jason Grilli surrendered two in the eighth as the Angels forged a tie.
Delino DeShields reached in his first four plate appearances and scored three times.
Gallo’s home was his 37th of the season, which is good for a tied for the American League lead with Aaron Judge.
