Texas Rangers

Rangers’ bullpen shines, but Padres jump on Tanner Scheppers

Pitching: Eight relief pitchers saw action, including Keller grad Jon Edwards, who pitched two hitless innings and struck out four after walking the first batter he faced in the first. Kyuji Fujikawa, Jamey Wright and Keone Kela all held the Padres scoreless. Wright allowed one hit in two innings, and Kela struck out the side in his lone inning. Tanner Scheppers allowed three runs on two hits, and Roman Mendez and Neftali Feliz each pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout apiece.

Hitting: Delino DeShields Jr., Prince Fielder and Adam Rosales each had two of the Rangers’ nine hits. Fielder’s single through the heart of the shift in right drove in DeShields, who doubled to start the game. DeShields also collected his second stolen base of the spring. Carlos Peguero’s bat has cooled off significantly. He’s 0 for 10 with eight strikeouts since singling in the second inning Tuesday. He was 0 for 4 Saturday with three strikeouts.

Notable: Adam Rosales made a nice stop on a ball to his left at shortstop, and he made the throw for the out. ... Ryan Rua lost a fly ball in deep left and had it clip off his glove, allowing Cory Spangenberg to reach third in the sixth. ... Catcher Robinson Chirinos threw out a base runner at second. He has thrown out 4 of 8 runners trying to steal this spring.
