Rangers first baseman Mike Napoli has been forced to the disabled list with a lower back strain that has bothered him off and on for over a week.

Left-handed reliever Dario Alvarez was activated off the DL and takes Napoli’s spot on the 25-man roster. Alvarez has been on the DL with left elbow soreness.

Napoli, 35, has struggled at the plate this season hitting .192 with a .262 on-base percentage. He has struck out 65 times in 51 games but has 11 homers with 25 RBIs.
