Angels’ big fourth inning derails Bonilla’s strong start for Rangers
Pitching: Lisalverto Bonilla was rolling right along through three innings before the Angels scored four times on a walk and four hits in the fourth, including a run-scoring double and a two-run homer. Jamey Wright allowed an unearned run in 1 2/3 innings on one hit and a couple of errors.
Hitting: Catcher Robinson Chirinos homered for the first time this spring to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the second. Shortstop Hanser Alberto singled in the sixth but was caught stealing when he was caught off first base. Ryan Rua hit his first homer of the spring in the eighth. Rua’s homer started a string of four consecutive hits for the Rangers in the inning.
Notable: Joey Gallo made a jumping stab to field a high bouncer at third in the first. ... In the second Gallo nearly went headfirst into the Rangers’ dugout going for a foul ball, but Alberto grabbed his feet to keep him from toppling over the railing. ... Ryan Ludwick nailed the Angels’ Collin Cowgill trying to leg out a triple with a strong throw from the LF corner to end the third.
