Pitching: The Texas Rangers had posted 23 consecutive scoreless innings before San Diego scored twice off Juan Carlos Oviedo in the eighth. … Starter Anthony Bass worked 3 1/3 scoreless innings, adding to the rotation competition. “I’m trying, man,” he said. “I’m just trying to make the team any way I can.”
Hitting: Elvis Andrus, Prince Fielder and Rougned Odor had the Rangers’ only hits. Andrus’ was a double off the top of the wall. … Fielder beat an infield shift with an opposite-field single to left, but he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.
Notable: Carlos Peguero impressed with his hustle, taking two bases on a wild pitch after striking out and trying to score from second on a two-out infield hit.
