Lewis improves, Martin homers, but Rangers lose late

Pitching: Colby Lewis retired the first eight Angels before TCU-ex Taylor Featherston just beat out an infield hit. ... Left-hander Joe Beimel surrendered a two-run homer in his spring debut.

Hitting: Leonys Martin hit his first spring homer, a two-run shot in the third. … Kyle Blanks (Achilles) made his spring debut, going 1-for-1 with an RBI in the eighth.

Notable: Elvis Andrus dazzled in the fourth with a back-handed stab followed by a jump-throw to first base to retire Alex Yarbrough. … Lisalverto Bonilla’s changeup in the dirt allowed the winning run to score, but catching prospect Jorge Alfaro has struggled with blocking balls and passed balls in the minors. He got a quick talking-to from bench coach Steve Buechele in the dugout.
