Charley Hoffman made a 9-foot birdie putt on the final to win the Valero Texas Open on Sunday.

The 39-year-old Hoffman closed with a 3-under 69 at TPC San Antonio for a one-stroke victory over Patrick Reed. Hoffman finished at 12-under 276 and earned $1,116,000 for his fourth PGA Tour victory.

Playing alongside Hoffman, Reed also birdied the par-5 18th for a 69. He missed birdie putts inside 8 feet on the par-3 16th and par-4 17th.

Chad Collins was third at 10 under after a 69.

Fort Worth resident Martin Piller charged into the lead in the fourth round, but he finished tied for fourth, three strokes back.

Piller shot 2-under-par 70 for a 9-under 279.

Colleyville resident Ryan Palmer was also in the five-way tie for fourth, shooting 69 on Sunday.

Piller found himself in the lead at 11 under after a birdie on 12. But a double bogey on 13 pretty much sealed his fate, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

In the LPGA Tour event in California, his wife, Gerina Piller, also wound up fourth after challenging for the lead.

Martin Piller was eager to go back to his hotel to see his wife finish.

“Watching her is easy,” he told the Express-News. “She’s one of the best players in the world and she’s proven herself out there.”
