The Grayson Murray Foundation donated $20,000 to the Ben Hogan Foundation in honor of the golfer who died last May.

Murray committed suicide after returning to his condo in Florida after withdrawing from the second day of competition at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge.

Murray’s death inspired his family to start the Grayson Murray Foundation in his honor to raise awareness of mental health and substance abuse challenges and provide support through service and research.

Murray’s mother, Terry, spoke at the ceremony and was joined by her husband Eric, daughter Erica Robinson, as well as Vice President of the foundation Kevin Canning and Murray’s former caddy Jay Green, and thanked the tournament for welcoming her, her family and the foundation.

“I want to express our deepest gratitude to the Charles Schwab Challenge and Fort Worth Colonial Charities for your generous donation of $10,000 and, more importantly, for the kindness and compassion you’ve shown in remembering Grayson’s memory this week. As you know, Grayson participated in his final tournament here in Fort Worth last May,” said Murray, “To see his life and legacy remembered in such a meaningful way, with players, caddies, volunteers and staff wearing the GM buttons, and attendees encouraged to wear green for mental health awareness is something our family will never forget. Kindness was one of Grayson’s most defining qualities. Thank you for reflecting that kindness back to us and to all those who are walking through the challenges of mental health.”

She explained why the Grayson Murray Foundation partnered with the Ben Hogan Foundation, commenting on the foundation’s similar aims.

“The Grayson Murray Foundation is proud to present a $20,000 donation to the Ben Hogan Foundation’s Resilience Program, a program that is doing truly meaningful work by supporting children who have experienced one of the most painful losses imaginable. This donation marks the beginning of a partnership between our two foundations, one built on shared experience, shared compassion, resilience, and hope, and a shared commitment to helping children not only survive the loss, but rise from it. We are honored to stand with you in this work. Thank you for what you do, and thank you for allowing Grayson’s legacy to be a part of it,” said Murray.

The Ben Hogan Foundation houses the resilience program, which works with kids of parents who committed suicide to provide them with therapy, support, and scholarship opportunities. This is done in honor of Hogan, whose Father, Chester committed suicide when the golfer was nine.

A Fort Worth legend, Hogan is known as one of the greatest and most influential golfers of all time, ranking fourth all time in major wins, trailing only Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Walter Hagen.

Charles Schwab Challenge tournament chairman Kip Adams also announced a donation to the Murrays’ foundation for $10,000, saying they were part of the Colonial family.

‘The Murray Family and the colonial family will be forever linked together. So we welcome you as part of our colonial family. Honored to be with you today, and it is my honor as the tournament chairman to support such an important endeavor as mental health awareness, and so the Charles Schwab Challenge is making a $10,000 donation,” said Adams.

Chad Cruson, Executive Director of the Ben Hogan Foundation, announced a scholarship in honor of Murray beginning in 2025.

The Grayson Murray Foundation will host the inaugural “Grayson Murray Classic,” a celebrity-pro-am tournament and charity gala in October 2025.
