Former TCU golfer relishes the opportunity to play at the Charles Schwab Challenge
Former TCU golfer Tom Hoge felt blessed when he spoke about the opportunity of returning to Fort Worth to participate in the Charles Schwab Challenge for the seventh time in his career.
“It’s a golf course that I’ve played a number of times and a lot of great memories from around there, and then just to get to play in front of a lot of friends and have a lot of people come out to support me is pretty cool,” said Hoge.
Hoge attended TCU from 2007 to 2011 where he earned an All-Mountain West Conference selection in 2011, an All-American selection in 2009 and placed third in the individual portion of the 2009 NCAA Championships.
The former Horned Frog reminisced about walking down from campus to watch the Charles Schwab Challenge when he attended TCU.
“I remember we had just completed play at the NCAA National Championship Golf Tournament and then came back and watched on Sunday,” said Hoge, “It was awesome.”
Hoge currently resides in Fort Worth and said he always feels more support at events in the Metroplex.
“A lot of friends followed me the last few days and I appreciate all that, It’s been pretty cool being at home,” said Hoge.
After graduation, Hoge joined the Canadian Tour in 2011 followed by the PGA Tour in 2015. Hoge has one career win at the 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and is currently the No. 32 golfer in the world according to the Official World Golf Ranking.
Heading into Sunday Hoge is 1-under-par and said he wished he had played better but was hopeful for a successful Sunday.
“More than anything it comes down to putting and hopefully I can make a few more of those putts tomorrow,” said Hoge, “I felt like I’ve played pretty solid.”
TCU recently announced the hiring of Bill Allcorn as the new men’s golf head coach and Hoge was excited about the selection.
“I don’t know Bill personally but people that do all speak very highly of him, so I’m excited to see what he can do and I expect great things from TCU,” said Hoge.
Hoge said it was special to get the opportunity to see loved ones he normally wouldn’t.
“It’s more about the relationships this week and seeing a lot of people and friends that you don’t get to see throughout the year while I’m traveling,” said Hoge.
