This four-time major champion the latest top golfer heading to Fort Worth for Colonial

The Colonial landed another big-time golfer on Tuesday.

Four-time major champion Brooks Koepka became the latest high-profile golfer to join the field, announcing his intentions during a radio appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show.”

“Whenever that first tournament is, I’m going to be there and I’m going to be ready,” Koepka said.

Koepka, the No. 3-ranked player in the world, is the highest-ranked player in the field to date. The tournament now has four of the top 10 players committed as Koepka joins Dustin Johnson (No. 5), Webb Simpson (No. 9) and Tommy Fleetwood (No. 10).

Koepka has played in the Colonial just once, finishing as the runner-up to Justin Rose in 2018.

Along with the top 10 players, other notable commits include Jordan Spieth, the three-time major winner who won the event in 2016, and Bubba Watson, the two-time Masters champion who hasn’t played Colonial since 2008.

The Colonial is scheduled for the week of June 8 with tournament rounds being played June 11-14. It’ll be the PGA Tour’s first event back since suspending play amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Rose commits

Somewhat fittingly, Justin Rose committed to the Colonial on the same day as Koepka. As stated, those were the two battling it out for the 2018 tournament as the final group.

Rose had a four-shot lead going into the final round and prevailed by firing a 6-under 64 on Sunday. Koepka didn’t go down without a fight, though, and actually posted a better score (7-under 63) in the final round.

Rose, ranked No. 14 in the world, will be making his seventh career appearance at Colonial.
