What can the Colonial do for you? Fort Worth PGA Tour event has new name

Fort Worth’s annual PGA Tour event at Colonial Country Club has a new name for the third time in three years.

The tournament announced the event has been re-named the "Charles Schwab Challenge." The financial services company agreed to a four-year deal to become the tournament’s title sponsor on April 12.

"Greatness is achieved through challenge," tournament chairman Rob Hood said in a news release. "Colonial has challenged the world’s greatest golfers for over three quarters of a century. The tournament title –Charles Schwab Challenge – certainly celebrates our long history of great competition."

Without a title sponsor for this year’s event, the tournament was called the "Fort Worth Invitational." In 2016-17, Dean & DeLuca sponsored the event before pulling out of what had been a six-year agreement.

Dates for the 2019 tournament haven’t been announced yet, but the Colonial traditionally falls on Memorial Day weekend. If that form holds, it would be held during the week of May 20-26 next year – following the PGA Championship which is being moved from August to May.

The AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas is expected to precede the PGA Championship.

The PGA Tour will release its 2019 dates in mid-July.
