Ryan Palmer tied the course record in a practice round last Friday with a 9-under 61. His front nine score of 28 also would’ve tied the tournament record.
Of course, Palmer’s had some practice at Colonial. Not only has he made 11 previous appearances, but he’s also a club member and lives in Colleyville. Last year, finished tied for fifth. The comfort of staying home helps, but it’s also a balance, Palmer said.
“It benefits me, because I’m at home with my wife and kids, and you know, I have to adjust to that, because normally at tournaments I’m by myself,” he said. “But I’ve kept my same routine. I came out here yesterday and practice for a couple hours like I normally would at any other tour stop when I get into town.”
Palmer is ranked 44th in the FedEx Cup standings. He’s made nine out of 11 cuts with his best finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where he tied for second.
