Notable golfers join mix for Byron Nelson, Colonial

Dustin Johnson, the No. 10 player in the world golf rankings, has added his name to the list of competitors for the AT&T Byron Nelson, tournament officials announced Monday.

Johnson, winner of the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March, topped the list of recent additions to the field for Irving’s PGA Tour stop, May 25-31 at the Four Seasons Resort.

Other additions to the Nelson commitment list announced Monday included Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel and Brendon Todd, the defending champion.

With the latest additions, Nelson officials are holding commitments from three of the world’s top-10 golfers: Dustin Johnson (No. 10), Jason Day (No. 8) and Dallas resident Jordan Spieth (No. 2).

Spieth, the reigning Masters champion, also will be the tournament headliner at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, May 18-24 in Fort Worth.

Colonial officials announced two additions to the field Monday: Justin Leonard, a Dallas resident who owns a share of the Colonial course record (61), and Tom Purtzer, the 1991 Colonial champ.

With the latest additions, Colonial officials are holding commitments from three of the top 12 players in the world golf rankings: Spieth (No. 2), defending champ Adam Scott (No. 11) and Jimmy Walker (No. 12), a former Baylor standout and Boerne resident who won the Valero Texas Open in March.
