Surprise leaders surface at U.S. Open qualifier in Dallas
With most players in the field having completed their morning rounds, three surprise players share the lead at today’s U.S. Open sectional qualifier at Lakewood Country Club in Dallas with scores of 7-under par: David Oraee, Roman Robledo and Walker Lee, an amateur.
Colleyville resident Ryan Palmer, a Colonial Country Club member, stands at 4-under after posting a 67 in his morning round. Palmer is slated to begin his afternoon round at 1:40 p.m. Martin Flores, a touring pro who played at Mansfield High School, opened with a 68 and will begin his afternoon round at 3-under.
Today’s qualifier, scheduled for 36 holes, also includes afternoon play before three of the 58 competitors spots in the field at Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wisc., site of the 2017 U.S. Open. The Open runs June 15-18 and Lakewood Country Club is one of multiple sites holding sectional qualifiers this week for golfers hoping to play their way into the field.
