Summer of Soccer is wrapping up at Sundance Square with a few matches remaining

As the last World Cup match in Arlington was held on Tuesday at Dallas Stadium between France and Spain, Sundance Square still has been hosting fans for watch parties for the games.

Tuesday’s game had a crowd at Sundance Square of a few hundred who came to watch the game, with a strong mix between France and Spain fans.

Spain ended up with the win, bringing varying cheers throughout the game.

Spain opened up the scoring after being awarded a penalty in the 22nd minute. Spain forward Mikel Oyarzabal buried the penalty kick to put Spain ahead. Spain fans jumped out of their seats in celebration at Sundance Square.

Defender Pedro Porro put Spain up 2-0 in the 58th minute, and that resulted in more cheers from fans at Sundance Square. Spain ended up winning 2-0 to advance to the World Cup championship game.

Throughout the summer, fans have continued to pack Sundance Square to watch the matches, including Josh Mitchell, a fan from Bedford who went to Sundance Square multiple times during the World Cup.

“This is my third time coming for a game. I keep coming because of the atmosphere, energy and people out here for the game. It makes it a good place to watch it,” Mitchell said.

“My favorite part is the community that comes out for the games.”

Sundance Square will continue to host viewings as the World Cup finishes up. They will show the England vs. Argentina game on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

It is also expected that there will be watch parties at Sundance Square for the third-place match and the final. Sundance Square’s website lists that operations will continue through July 19, which is the date of the final. The third-place match will be on July 18.
