Fans party at Dallas Fan Festival as U.S. dominates World Cup opener

Thousands of fans packed Fair Park for the FIFA Fan Festival for the second straight day as the United States opened its 2026 World Cup campaign with a 4-1 win over Paraguay.

The U.S. opened up the scoring early in Inglewood, California, with Paraguay conceding an own goal in the seventh minute. “USA” chants filled the fest, and fans maintained their energy throughout the match.

The excitement wasn’t just for the success of the U.S. but also for the World Cup being held in the U.S. for the first time since 1994.

“I’m excited for all the different people from different countries to come to the United States for the World Cup,” Rafael Freitas, a fan who is in Dallas for work, said. “I don’t feel like people care as much about soccer here, so I think the World Cup being here will help the sport grow.”

Another fan from Chicago who is here for work, James Durcan, gave a similar response and gave his prediction for the U.S.

“It’s cool that it’s on home soil, but I’m excited for all the different people to come into the community for the World Cup,” he said. “I think the United States will do decent. I could see them making it to the quarterfinals.”
