North Texas is in high demand for World Cup Airbnbs. How you can cash in
If you’ve ever thought about renting out a spare room or property, the FIFA World Cup could be a good time to try it.
A recent study by Rustic Pathways ranked Dallas as the fourth-most expensive World Cup host city for short-term rentals, with average nightly rates of about $251, and Airbnb said searches for stays in World Cup host cities have increased by 80% compared with the same period last year as fans make travel plans for the tournament.
The company said residents of host cities could earn an average of $3,000 by renting out their space during the event.
What’s more: Airbnb is offering a $750 incentive to first-time hosts in World Cup host cities, including in Dallas-Fort Worth.
“Demand for World Cup stays on Airbnb is surging, giving residents of host cities the opportunity to boost their incomes by sharing their homes and the communities they love,” Airbnb Chief Business Officer David Stephenson said. “There’s truly never been a better time to become a host on Airbnb.”
With several matches scheduled to be played at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, some North Texans may have an opportunity to cash in on the influx of visitors.
Here’s what to know about the incentive and how much homeowners in Dallas-Fort Worth could earn.
How does the $750 incentive work?
North Texas homeowners who list an entire home on the platform for the first time can receive a $750 incentive on top of any money earned from bookings if they host their first guest by July 31, according to Airbnb.
To qualify, hosts must complete a reservation worth at least $100 before taxes. Canceled reservations aren’t eligible for the reward.
Each host can receive one reward, which Airbnb said will be paid within 45 days after the stay is completed.
In North Texas, the program includes Dallas, Fort Worth, and parts of Tarrant County. You can find the full list of eligible ZIP codes on Airbnb’s website.
How much could I earn by hosting World Cup visitors?
Airbnb’s Host Earning Calculator estimated a one-bedroom listing could earn $507 in Arlington, $697 in Fort Worth, and $724 in Dallas during a seven night stay from June 13 through June 19.
The period includes World Cup matches between the Netherlands and Japan on June 14 and England versus Croatia on June 17.
For two-bedroom properties, estimated earnings increased to $710 in Arlington, $831 in Fort Worth, and $995 in Dallas during the same period.
How do I list my home on Airbnb?
Homeowners can create a listing by providing basic information about their property, including its location and how many guests it can accommodate, according to Airbnb. Hosts can then upload photos, write a description, and set a nightly rate.
Hosts must verify their identity before a listing can go live. Once approved, listings typically appear in search results within 24 hours, though some may take up to 72 hours depending on the review process.

Can I legally rent out my home on Airbnb in North Texas?
Yes, but local rules may limit whether your property can be used as a short-term rental.
For example, short-term rentals in Fort Worth are prohibited in most residential neighborhoods and generally only allowed in certain mixed-use, commercial and industrial areas.
Dallas homeowners may also face increased scrutiny. City officials recently said they’ve recovered $5.5 million in unpaid hotel occupancy taxes from short-term rental operators since 2020 and believe nearly 2,000 operators may still be out of compliance, according to Fox 4.
Before creating a listing, homeowners should check local zoning rules, registration requirements and any homeowner association restrictions to confirm their property is eligible.
