FIFA announces release of discounted World Cup tickets after fan uproar

Soccer fans around the world have expressed dismay about FIFA World Cup ticket prices, which have reached as high as $10,877 for the games at AT&T Stadium.

FIFA responded by announcing that it will release discounted tickets starting at $60 to the competing nations for every game in North America, in what FIFA calls the Supporter Entry Tier. Those countries will then decide how to distribute them to fans.

ESPN reported that there will only be hundreds of tickets in that tier, far off from the hundreds of thousands of tickets priced at $21 that the U.S. had targeted before the tournament’s onset.

The increased prices were very concerning for international fans, who are not accustomed to American ticket policies and fees. Fans will still be able to obtain tickets from FIFA through the random selection draw, which runs until Jan. 13.
