Grapevine surges by Azle late

The Grapevine offense awoke by scoring three times in the fourth quarter, including two TD passes by Alan Bowman and a 2-yard plunge by Cole Stephenson, as the Mustangs beat the Hornets 29-21 in a season opener.

Key players: Bowman was 10-for-23 passing for 136 yards but he was at his best in the the fourth quarter with TDs to Dylan Gonzales and David Clayton. Zach Wolf rushed for 107 yards and a 22-yard TD. Azle’s Ken Seals threw for 186 yards and two TDs to Cody Akers.

Key stat: Azle committed five turnovers.
