Fort Worth Young Men’s Leadership Academy routed in varsity opener

Saginaw Chisholm Trail rolled to a 46-0 win over Fort Worth YMLA at Ranger Stadium in the visitors’ first-ever varsity game. Chisholm Trail took the lead on the strength of Ke-Shawn Gbanquoi’s three scores, including 52- and 30-yard runs and a 33-yard TD pass.The defense also got in on the scoring for the Rangers, as Frank Chew returned a fumble 28 yards for a score. The Wildcats were also held to just 28 yards of offense in the first half.

Key players: Chisholm Trail QB Collin Reyes passed for 163 yards and two scores. Gbanquoi rushed 7 times for 144 yards and the three scores. Jayquan Jamerson led the Rangers receivers with 6 catches and 89 yards and a score. Devonte Jones was counted on to carry the ball in the second half, rushing 14 times for 92 yards. YMLA’s Bryan Cottingim wasn’t afraid to put the ball in the air. He completed six of 20 passes on the night. He also rushed for 17 times but netted minus-7 yards.

Key stat: It was YMLA’s first varsity game yet they committed only six penalties for 37 yards.

Records: Saginaw Chisholm Trail, 1-0, YMLA, 0-1.
