Running game helps Ponder overpower Benbrook in season opener

Ponder Lions 35, Benbrook Bobcats 14

Ponder rushed for 310 yards as a team in an opening night victory over the Benbrook Bobcats 35-14.  A rushing touchdown by Shane Scott with 56 seconds left put the game out of reach for Benbrook.  The Bobcats managed 203 total yards in their first game on Friday night at Clark Stadium.

Key Players: Ponder senior running back Jonathan Aguilar accounted for 2 rushing touchdowns and 219 yards on 16 carries.  Senior Chase Harris added 52 total yards and 2 touchdowns to the winning effort for the Lions.  Sophomore Quintan Jackson got the most touches for Benbrook, totaling 19 carries for 124 yards.

Key stat:  Both teams struggled with penalties racking up 205 yards combined on the night.
