Top 5 high school football games to watch around Dallas-Fort Worth in Week 9/Week 5
After a month-long delay, Class 6A and 5A schools, and TAPPS have begun playing football games. There are a ton of heavyweight matches to watch in Week 9/Week 5 of the season.
We dwindled down the candidates to these 5 best games in DFW:
1. Rockwall-Heath (3-1) vs. Rockwall (3-1)
7:30 p.m. Friday (Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium)
How will Rockwall respond? The Yellowjackets fell back to Earth last week. After an upset win over Southlake Carroll, Rockwall took it on the chin in a blowout home loss to Highland Park.
Now Rockwall takes on the rival Hawks in a matchup of offensive powers.
Rockwall has beaten Heath each of the past two seasons, including 38-17 in 2019. Heath last beat Rockwall in 2017 by a score of 28-27. The Yellowjackets are averaging nearly 500 yards per game, led by star 2022 quarterback Braedyn Locke, who has thrown for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Heath is averaging 566 yards per game and its quarterback Josh Hoover has thrown for 1,107 yards and 11 TDs. The Hawks are averaging 283 yards rushing, led by running back Zach Evans.

2. Brock (7-0) at Boyd (7-0)
7:30 p.m. Friday
Brock continues to be a Class 3A powerhouse in Texas, having won 86 games in 6 1/2 seasons. Another undefeated start for Chad Worrell’s group, which is averaging 58.3 points per game.
In four district games, that average rises by three points to 61.3 per contest, including a 79-0 win in the opener over Bowie.
Running back Cash Jones leads the Fort Worth area in rushing yards and is averaging over 200 per game.
But in second place is Boyd’s Rendyn Lamance, who’s averaging 195 yards rushing a game. The Yellowjackets are averaging 40 points per game and are coming off a 46-6 victory over Peaster in Week 8.
Boyd last started 7-0 in the 2004 season when it went 16-0 and won a state championship.

3. Colleyville Heritage (1-0) vs. Richland (3-0)
7 p.m. Friday (Birdville FA/AC)
Heritage hasn’t played since Sept. 26, nearly a month-long hiatus, when it beat rival Grapevine at Globe Life Park. During that game, the Panthers’ offense exploded behind quarterback AJ Smith-Shawver and receiver Brenen Hawkins-Roth.
But in the first three weeks, Richland has put up some big numbers, including a Week 3 win over Timber Creek 45-34. Cole Benson connected with six different receivers, sophomore running back Dominique Johnson ran for four TDs and CJ Nelson had 113 yards receiving.
The Royals are 3-0 for the first time since 2017.
PREDICTION: Richland 35, Heritage 28
4. Marcus (3-0) at Flower Mound (2-1)
7 p.m. Friday
It’s the Mound Showdown as Marcus looks to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2015. The Marauders beat the Jaguars last season, 34-31. Marcus owns an 11-9 record over its rivals all-time. Marcus quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is a 4-star LSU commit. He is ranked as the No. 8 pro-style QB in the country by 247Sports.
Flower Mound beat Marcus in 2017 and 2018.
PREDICTION: Marcus 38, Flower Mound 21
5. Mansfield Timberview (3-0) at Burleson (3-1)
7 p.m. Friday
Timberview is off to its best start since 2013. The Wolves are coming off a 27-18 win over Cleburne to open up zone play. Running back Deuce Jones rushed for 166 yards. On the season, they are allowing 15 points per game.
Burleson is off to a 3-1 start under new Elks coach Jon Kitna. They opened up zone play with a 69-14 victory over Joshua. The Elks have scored 60 in back-to-back games and are averaging 47.8 points per contest.
PREDICTION: Timberview 31, Burleson 27
