Turner’s 4 TDs leads FW Arlington Heights to victory over Wyatt in its season opener
De’Marquise Turner scored four touchdowns to lead Fort Worth Arlington Heights over Fort Worth Wyatt, 42-14, in a non-district Class 5A game at Farrington Field Thursday night.
The senior rushed 14 times for 119 yards.
Arlington Heights (1-0) led, 21-6, at halftime. The first two of the Yellow Jackets’ three TDs came after miscues in the punting game. In both cases, Heights had a short field to work with.
The first score came after a punt of only seven yards to Wyatt’s 31-yard line late in the first quarter. On the following play, Turner ran off-tackle for the score.
The second came after a mishandled hike from center. The punter scrambled to the sidelines for a 1-yard gain to the 36. Three plays later, Turner scored from the 2 to make it 14-6 Heights. On the previous play, a screen pass to Eli Hunter-Smith from quarterback Shiloh Darden was converted into a 38-yard gain.
In between the Yellow Jacket scores, Wyatt drove 92 yards in eight plays and Tamadre Ross scored from the 6.
Heights’ last score in the first half came with just 19.6 seconds left when Jeremiah Jacobs took a pass in stride down the sidelines for a 25-yard TD.
Wyatt pulled within seven after a 2-point conversion, 21-14, early in the second half. Ross stepped in front of a short pass near the line of scrimmage and scored 50 yards out.
But Turner returned the ensuing kickoff 48 yards to the Wyatt 32 leading to his own touchdown run of 16 yards four plays later to reinstate the 14-point advantage and Wyatt never threatened again.
After 153 yards of offense in the first half, the Chaparrals managed only 55 in the second half.
Wyatt (0-2) returns to Farrington Field Oct. 8 to face Burleson at 7 p.m. Heights also returns to Farrington Oct. 9 to take on FW Trimble Tech at 7 p.m. in its district opener.
