Lake Worth football program under investigation after player accused of using slur

Lake Worth High School is under investigation after allegations arose early Monday morning that a member of the football team used a racial slur during the Bullfrogs’ home game Friday against Fort Worth Polytechnic.

The school district confirmed the allegation and sent out a press release Monday afternoon.

“Lake Worth Independent School District was notified of claims that a Lake Worth High School Varsity football player used a racial slur during a match that had taken place at Lake Worth High School on Friday, September 25th, 2020.

Lake Worth High School administration began investigating upon being notified of the allegations. That investigation is ongoing, and appropriate corrective action(s) will be taken once concluded.

Lake Worth ISD believes that all individuals are entitled to be treated with dignity and respect. The district does not tolerate racism, the use of racial slurs, or acts of aggression towards minority groups.”

According to the mother of a Lake Worth football player, all but three members of the team protested Monday morning’s practice. The protest took place in the school’s parking lot during the time the football players were supposed to be out on the field warming up.

The mother said the protest lasted 15 minutes before coaches and administrators met with five parents, and that those protesters won’t be suiting up until appropriate actions have been taken.

The mother also said that her son was called a racial slur when the Bullfrogs played at Venus on Sept. 18.

Lake Worth (4-1) is scheduled to travel to Wichita Falls to play Hirschi Friday at 7 p.m.
