Arlington Seguin dominates Fort Worth Wyatt in season opener at Globe Life Park
Arlington Seguin scored six touchdowns in the first half on its way to a 70-0 victory over Fort Worth Wyatt on Saturday at Globe Life Park in the season opener for both teams.
It was the third game of the week at Globe Life Park, the former home of the Texas Rangers and the start of a triple-header on the day. Euless Trinity beat Arlington Lamar Thursday and Arlington beat Mansfield Friday.
It took just one play from scrimmage for the Cougars (1-0) to score their first touchdown of the season, a 27-yard run from Jalen March. On Seguin’s sixth play, quarterback Xavier Gordon hit Naszir Otieno for a 33-yard TD and 14-0 lead with 3:06 left in the first quarter.
JJ Johnson picked off a Wyatt pass attempt and returned it 19 yards to the 1 and March scored the next play for a 20-0 lead at the 1:18 mark.
Seguin extended its lead to 34-0 midway through the second quarter. An interception by John Walker was sandwiched between a 16-yard TD run by Nasrae Otieno and a 12-yard TD run by March, who had 76 yards on eight carries in the first half.
The Cougars took a 40-0 advantage into halftime when Gordon threw a 39-yard pass on fourth down to Wisdom Gibson with 3:22 left in the second quarter.
Seguin out-gained Wyatt 215-28 in total yardage before halftime. Gordon completed 7 of 9 attempts with 122 yards and two TDs.
The offense continued into the second half on Seguin’s first drive of the third quarter. A 5-play, 72-yard drive was capped off by a 17-yard run by Gordon. The big play came on a 41-yard run from March to the Wyatt 28.
A bad snap on Wyatt put the ball at the 1 for Seguin and Gordon scored to make it 62-0 with four minutes left in the third.
Gordon added his third rushing TD in as many carries from 9 yards out for a 70-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Seguin out-gained Wyatt 373-5 for the entire game. March finished with 120 yards rushing and two TDs. Gordon accounted for 191 yards and five total scores. Gibson and Naszir Otieno combined for 114 yards receiving.
The Cougars started in Wyatt territory on 10 of 12 possessions.
