Midlothian Heritage tops Lindale in high school football showdown

Midlothian Heritage (2-0), the ninth-ranked team in Texas Football’s 4A Division I rankings, marched 99 yards for a touchdown on a fourth-quarter drive to edge past 10th-ranked Lindale (1-1) for a 28-21 win on Friday night.

A 99-yard scoring drive gave Heritage the winning score. The Jaguars started on their own 1-yard line with 1 minute, 31 seconds left in the third quarter and the game tied 21-21. Heritage held the ball for 14 plays. Cullen Stone finished the drive with 2-yard touchdown run with 9:41 left to play.

Kaden Brown grabbed an interception to end Lindale’s last drive at the Heritage with two minutes remaining.

Heritage jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Lindale could pick up a first down. The Jaguars opened the game with an 84-yard scoring drive capped by Cullen Stone’s 2-yard touchdown run.

After a three-and-out series, Lindale bobbled the snap on a punt. Heritage took over on the Lindale 26 and scored on the next play. Daelin Rader connected on a touchdown pass to Haydon Wiginton to give the Jaguars a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Lindale got on the board with Landon Love’s 28-yard field goal. Jordan Jenkins scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to pull the Eagles within 14-10 on the first play of the second quarter.

A long touchdown drive gave Lindale its first lead of the night. The Eagles held the ball for 14 plays to cover 80 yards. Sam Peterson’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Franke put Lindale up 16-14 with 2:33 to play in the second quarter.

Heritage quickly answered, moving 74 yards in four plays. Latray Miller ran 15 yards for a touchdown to put the Jaguars back in front. Love kicked a 32-yard field goal with seven seconds before halftime to cut Lindale’s deficit to 21-19 at the break.

Lindale tied the game midway through the third quarter when a Heritage penalty in the end zone gave the Eagles a safety.
